as anyone who’s known me five minutes could guess, i was not entirely successful in finding a job. more, i was not entirely successful in executing a decent try to get a job. the one idea i had was pizza place, which i did not act upon. i did make an appointment at one temp agency, but who knows what they’ll have on the bus line for light clerical bullshit. anyone out there know of a half-decent place in worcester that’s hiring? remember that i shy away from hard work, having to smile, and talking to people on the phone. i found myself walking around trying to come up with get-rich quick schemes, but not so i could avoid work– so i could avoid applying for a job.

today i go to the temp agency to score a job to score some cash to score some records/rent/food/paint/printing funds/records. i’m well-shaven and showered but i’m wearing a three-day shirt and i’m hungry as a pack mule. well, i’m at the university, maybe i’ll try to get into the cafeteria… oh yeah, last night me and jess watched the wayward boys dvd and then continued our fellini theme from last week by watching woody allen’s “stardust memories” (which i thouroughly enjoyed). a return to the world will do me good.

friday’s show went gangbusters, save for the fact that i think i left my violin bow in rob’s grandma’s house and rob went off traveling again. all the acts were really awesome, and i got some great cds and junk. it was nice to see an non-electronic noise show, too (meaning no sequencing, no beats (as such), and with the exception of your humble narrator, no digital sounds). nicky revs described it as being akin to a solid-state electronics manufacturer’s wet dream. many guitar effects pedals, not many electric guitars. my set went ok. part of it involved drinking so much water i thought i was going to throw up, or worse, get brain swelling.

fujichia: i am / glad to / be here / with you.

reminder/announcement- playing a noise set on manchonis rd in wilbraham at rob francisco’s grandma’s basement today (friday). should be fun- last time i went there was for usa is a monster and the awkwardly-named dance ensemble “yours truly”. me and melissa #1 ate a mess of rob’s grandma’s m&ms but she was cool with it- that’s what they were there for. of course i cannot promise m&ms, so plan to byo.

nick points out (and he is right, and right to do so) that this is every show i play- i get a show, i want to back out, i don’t contact the set-up person soon enough to easily back out, i come up with something at the last minute, i tell people who might want to see at the very last minute… it’s a minor disaster.

last night i went to provvy to see the jero harris show. the first two
acts were abysmal– just awful, dispassionate, fashion noise (huh!). those
in the audience quick to rile were about 30 seconds into the first set
before whispering to me “let’s blow up their car so they can’t get to the
next gig”. i was thinking, and i should’ve, stormed the stage and started
playing the drums. they would’ve taken it as a compliment, probably, and
it would’ve really made everything a lot more bearable (assuming others
jumped on as well). well, i’ll note that in my book of tactics. the old
standby “appaud vigorously until they stop” wouldn’t have worked as no
one would’ve picked up on my use - mention distinction w/r/t
encouragement. on the
upswing, kites was good, as always. christopher makes his own electronic noisemakers, and his emotive playing thereof is the antithesis of the plodding electronic “what does this button do” noise set one might be accustomed to. not to say that he doesn’t surprise himself– rather, all the surprises he chances upon are joyous ones. i really like it. he’s sending me some tapes and i’m p-u-m-p-e-d: pumped. jeremy’s set was ok– the drummer was out of control like dave coulier, which i enjoyed but which visibly annoyed the visibly annoyed mike t on bass. also the vocals were too low, and that is, for me (and all folk decent and true), the 80% main thing with mr. harris. football rabbit was good, everyone had a good time: they play metal with live drum machine– meaning not programmed. the guy stands there and hits the buttons with his fingers. it’s pretty great- they are all doofy nerds, but not anti-cool-cool, just great nerds. i’ve mentioned this before. anyway, like i said, everyone had a good time. today me and nicky are renting the first lord of the rings movie, watching it, then driving to the cinema to see the second. i’m a sucker for an epic but we’ll see five hours in…

for movie night tonight me and secretly jess (and charles schubert and matt coe) watched fellini’s “satyricon”. jess wanted to eat something sweet (and me and little andrew’s plans to make cookie waffles were put off for another day, as it was already getting late) so she convinced me to chip in $2 for a small ($6) cake witha peach topping. when we brought it to the register the woman informed us it was “buy one get one [free]”. so blingo blango two cakes & satyricon. incidentally the second cake had a strawberry topping and i feel funny. will post cookie waffle developement notes.

i borrowed a record player, and i’m listening to records i haven’t heard in months and months. daniel johnston, sonic youth, scott joplin, showcase showdown, art ensemble of chicago, leslie gore, esg, modern lovers, the anthony braxton record that abel got me after my needle broke, which i haven’t heard at all.

suicidal tendencies is my favorite band and everything i said i’d do this month has been called off. if you need me i’ll be in bed pretending to be asleep. i’m also considering making a bunch of food and spitting in it.
