well, we got to boston alright, although pulling out of the driveway packed into the wilsonmobile we forgot about the guitar and bass leaned against the trunk and ran over them! seriously, the tire passed over both entirely. the show was in room attached to the harvard radio station and was hot, very hot. we opened, opening with our new song “seven garbagemen”. The Body was next, playing the first show of their short tour. they were, as i promised tim and rich and mary, monstruously loud. Sirens was next but i just couldn’t get into them and it was mad hot so we went on a walk around the block backwards. Bread and Roses played all acoustic as always. when i see a band a number of times i always start to notice new things, and what i noticed about them this time was the drummer (Jamie) doesn’t have a hi hat, he has a tambourine in a frisbee that he taps with his foot. yeah.

after the show kpars had to drive hannah’s car back to her house (hannah is 17 and can’t drive after midnight), but we were compensated with doritos and cereal and orange juice (we were starving). i fell asleep for the rest of the car ride and can only speculate what happened next.

with me asleep, mary felt a lot more comfortable telling kpars the truth about how she has a bionic leg and a bionic arm. kpars, on a lark, turned tim into a dragon, and rich into a shimone dragon (instead of breathing fire he breathed ice). rich blasted me, still asleep, with ice and i went from just being asleep, into suspended animation. a massive robot rended the road ahead of us into spaghetti and we drove up its arm and down its back. the robot turned on its heel and chased us but we outmaneuvered it… into a wormhole! emerging on the same road in an alternate universe with no way of getting home kpars once again used her witchery to turn us into giant moths. we flew around a lot, went to the mountains, it was awesome!

yesterday me and mike messed around cleaning up the {frog pond} / {swimming pool where all the water is draining out} in preparation for making a {below-ground sauna with living roof} / {skateboard ramp}. also we’re using the nicely patterened vinyl pool floor in construction of our new practice space. it rained last night and it’s grey today. little andrew can’t make it to the puzzled panther show on friday so we’re playing without the definition a keyboard player adds. he’s going to maine to see a diane arbus exhibit but hopefully he’ll be back sunday. oh, me and mike made flyers for sunday’s show at the wag that fail to mention that the show is indeed at the wag. moreover the flyers were made in an “exquisite corpse” style that renders the names practically unreadable if you don’t know what they are already. kpars is still with sprained ankle haunting my house while i run around trying to work on neccessary projects, call up and bend an ear.

i wrote up a big thing but didn’t finish it and then i left my room to help sort out the garlic harvest then the window got closed and i lost it. so here’s a truncated version, possibly so truncated that no valuable information can be extracted.

Tiny Hawks, Kayo Dot, Ur Dog, M Ax Noi Mach show at the HOSS shut down after TH by cops, show next day shut down by cops, big “last show” blowout in september with Fat Worm Of Error, Sunburned Hand Of Man, and (maybe) Puzzled Panther dubious. Matt Hallas and Dierdre’s baby Quint is cute, their town is nice, the ocean is big. worcester annihilated boston in worcester - boston game, due in part to homefield advantage, propensity for nighttime play. i only smoke cigars in times of victory or for babies born. bicycle champion major taylor “the worcester whilwind” first black pro athelete. race up george street where he used to train an annual event, sunday last, good turnout for riders and spectators- Dan L, Matt Coe, Charles Schubert, Jason The Flash, Dan P, all make good time. KPars sprained ankle and myself quite sore in the leggal dept.. still, tomorow i run errands with Mike L to get guarana soda, soy smoothie, those really thick potato chips, photocopies, mail, chaplin movies, sandwiches,

two shows this weekend and maybe another as220 crafts fair on sunday (although it’s so soon since the last one and we hardly made money although it was a nice day). Puzzled Panther in boston on friday and at the WAG on sunday. working out the kinks for a house show in worcester on the 13th, and a movies-with-live-soundtracks show at the WAG with xander sometime after that. new eight second terribles song posted, with a threat from them to record a new one every week. how do you cash a twenty-four dollar check that’s made out to a company you run but that you don’t have a bank account for? opie and mbp, i’m sending out your shirts. also, i might start tacking on a $1 shipping and handling fee to all catalog orders, using that to pay Mike L to fill orders for me, which would make them go out faster and more reliably and get Mike more involved (a long-time plan).

shit, i gotta go sweep something. no rest for the wicked [awesome].

  • Lee, i’m trying to get in touch with you about two potential Puzzled Panther / the Body shows, in Boston and Worcester. call me quick.

  • i found a big stack of “Vision and Scarlet Witch” comic books that i thought got stolen after a noise show i played in the barn. whew!
  • Matt Hallas’ band Hot Knives played at the Lucky Dog today but i couldn’t find my ID and somehow already spent the money from the cds i sold yesterday (put gas in the car we borrowed, went to Duffy’s, bought silk screen silk, falafel and an ice cream, did some copy shoppery).
  • the Schoolhouse in Hadley is having some dope shows: on the 24th it’s Misty, M Ax Noi Mach (Rob Francisco from Monster Attacks!), Noise Nomads, and DFNEG. august first is kevin driscoll’s Memories Forever, 1000 needles (chip tune stuff i guess), and that farty, union suited noise bear Bromp Treb (whose real name is Neil Young).
  • having talked about the four elements of punk, and just for basic community improvement, i’ve been working on getting better at setting up shows. but i’m still terrible at it. i’m also working on capitalizing proper nouns, for clarity.
  • this month i did a lot of silk screening and i’m paying off my substantial debts while remaining funemployed (going strong since 2002). keep those t-shirt jobs flowing my way, everybody!
  • Fantastic’s pizza on main street now has a really nice pinball game. i forget what it is but it’s one of Little Andrew’s favorite tables and he’s a connoisseur. it’s a quarter a game and the tilt is really low.

yesterday’s show at as220 was phenominal. i guess fat day was supposed to play, but i didn’t find out until i got there, but then they never showed up, so really nothing (to me) was lost. we played first and everyone sang along and at the end of the set rich stage dived into the audience and was passed aloft for what seemed minutes while everyone howled and clamored for a piece. oh man, it was so much fun. after we played was hue & cry, from california (sf, i think). they were a really awesome band and really nice folks. following was ur dog, which i thought would be kind of psych-folk but was more like space rock. closing up was tiny hawks, who obviously ruled. other nice things about the show– seeing lots of providence pals, too many to mention; making a lot of money for the providence chapter of books through bars; an educational experience for tim and rich; free soda for the band; another colorful silk-screened flyer for my vanity wall. we have a cd out now but i’m waiting to borrow mary’s digicam so i can get picture of it and some other stuff to do a catalog update. the cd is called “bugs on bugs”.

marge madigan is summering in madison wisconsin, enrolled in a language learning course for gujjari (an indian dialect). she taught her father back in houston how to say “how are you” and he mispronounced it to an indian co-worker, saying what translated to “time thief”.

so i’ve talked and talked about worcester as a small town, being weirded out when there are crusties or spikey punks i don’t know. imagine my surprise when dan wars of all people tells me of a basement show off grafton street with a folk-punk band i /have/ to see. i didn’t know the kids whose house it was, but i had a friend-of-a-friend-of-a-friend’s rough directions, and surprised myself by i getting there ho-kay. the band is called “rosa” and the homies and i convinced them to come home with us (swimming, skate rope, the new fireman’s pole installed in the barn recently (a fulfillment of a childhood dream)). their band was beautiful mic-less sing-alongs, all acoustic, piccolo snare (and that’s all for drums), mandolin, banjo, washtub bass. other acts were two nick bullyrag - vegan life mike riley projects (”surrounded by assholes” with ryan jarvis, and another band whose name was a prepositional phrase i forgot, with a guitarist who i though was this kid who pushed me in first grade (but wasn’t). the latter band struggled with mic troubles, when they shouldn’t have- pretending a mic works (for a band like that, in a basement show setting) is just as effective, if not more so, than having a mic that actually works. we’re a savvy crowd, we know what singing sounds like, just tell us where it goes and we’ll fill in (you can’t hear the words anyway). i can’t type too much now, i need to show these kids (as i show almost all overnight visitors) the cameo videos.

radio waves exist all around us in frequencies in the audible range. you can’t hear them unless you make a very low frequency reciever, but you can listen in to nasa’s VLF stream at spaceweather.com. it’s good, nice fire-pops and raindrops (sferics, they’re called) and if you’re lucky, whstlers and tweeks.

mike just ordered 5 blank, uncut skateboard decks to cut down into funny shapes, print funny stuff on, and ride. this is the test and if all goes well he’s going to get more to sell at local skate shops, and to jerks like you. it should be obvious that i’m really excited about this.

for reasons that elude me, the skin on my fingertips is peeling off. it makes me feel like either a safecracker with delicate fingertips or a supercriminal who is shedding his old fingerprints after a particularly devious crime. in any event, it’s a good feeling.

sunday’s craftsfair with my mom and mike leslie (my fictional brother) went really good. we didn’t make a lot of money, but we had a nice table outside and we met some great folks, and made a little bit of money (and ate pizza). also we got people psyched for the puzzled panthers show. oh, and i only sold 1 of the crazy sci-fi convention pins i made! what gives?

there was an around-the-world party at my house and after going through a number of possible themes (the best of which were “dracula”, “corny mysticism”, and “futuristic appalachia”) i decided on “gin & milk”. the activity for the room was a new game i invented based on rock paper scissors called “gin milk chocolate bar hot sauce”. the reason i chose gin and milk is that the combination is featured in a screamin’ jay hawkins song called “yellow coat” that i really like, and is a real cue (for me) for the kind of zebra-striped purple cape far-gone r&b sci-fi / horror psychedelia that i love about screamin’ jay hawkins.

more good - bad: the baby’s favorite word is “uh-oh” and lately i’ve been saying “hot dog” in all “uh-oh” situations in the hopes that she’ll pick up on it. hopefully it’ll also bring about early awareness of mike leslie’s notion of “good grief”- crisitunity and all that.
