fuzzy parasite with leech belly,

some sort of road animal,
a li’l bat,
creature with messed-up eyes,
quizzical ape (see it’s face),

a dragonfly,
an itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie yellow polka-dot bikini. whew!

oh, my band page on the corleone site is fully operational, with a little picture of the album even. the album looks upside down because that’s how it is– when mike t was laying out the cover he wasn’t clear on the template orientation, and that’s what happened. i’m fine with it, but brian o thought i would be mad, mike figured i’d be into it but brian would be mad, and presumably the press thought mike would be mad (just to tidy things up). in any event there’s nothing that can be done about it except tell people they can turn it back right-side-up if they want to. man, it’s too bad interactive isn’t a buzzword anymore (but it’s nice that it’s an actual thing).

today i went to lunch with my mom at the pickle barrel and then as promised me and jon knapp drove to framingham and jawed-out about 20th century piano music. i told him i was getting more into noise and he asked me what noise-rock bands i like and i told him the stuff i like isn’t like rock bands at all. we were listening to a david tudor album and it sounded like can’t, so i’m going to make him a mix tape in trade for loaning me all those sun ra, jimmie rodgers, steve reich and glenn gould cds.

mom, i remebered what it was that word i couldn’t remember, regarding space as defined by all electromagnetic radiation rather than just that in the visible spectrum. the word is “hertzian”, or “hertzian space”. can you believe it? it was hanging right there in front of me, so obvious.

hey, i’m just putting this out there- does anyone have one of those player pianos that takes discs with midi files on them? i’ve started writing midi piano stuff and i’d like to record it on a real piano.

fujichia: ease up, bro!

“How boring is life in the Antarctic? People in one group wintering at the South Pole in the 1960s watched the film “Cat Ballou” 87 times. People in another, after tiring of the westerns, Disney features and pornographic films on hand, spliced the movies together into their own production and adopted a vocabulary based on their creation that was so strange that relief crews arriving in the spring could barely understand them.”

my stomach’s messed up and i gotta lie down and listen to records for a while but first some things:

  • got to go out to breakfast this morning with alyssa golden, who i haven’t seen in a long time. i finally got a picture of her tattoo, which totally blew me away when i first heard about it, because it’s the fujichia mermaid! i put it and a bunch more stuff people sent me on the new fujichia fan art page i’m so proud of.
  • i got a call from the dude at the cd place, it seems like it’s all going to work out, and not cause significant delays. jon knapp is back in town and we’re going to tool up to framingham tomorrow to pick up the backpack i left there and talk about piano music, a hang-out sesh i’m really looking forward to.
  • i could use some help booking shows– in boston on the seventh we still don’t really have anything, ditto maine (portland ideally) on the eighth, and “the south” (esp. virginia and georgia) from pretty much the fourteenth to the nineteenth. we’re unmiked dudes, we can play bedrooms, if you live in these places and/or have friends who do, please, hook it up– jacob at fujichia dot com.
  • i’m definitely going to the female noise fest on june 3rd at red rum in providence, and so should you. katt hernandez, jessica rylan, unicorn hard-on, leslie keffer, heart2heart, blue shift, mr. uterus, movies by xander marro… this is going to rule! seriously, these are some of my favorite acts to see right now, all together in one bill! bring extra money for tapes and weird garbage!!
  • stuffed animal pics forthcoming!

nick drove me to framingham but both cds i brought had the same fuck-up! it’s still unclear what the problem is but in any event it look like it’s not too too bad– the cd plays fine and i guess there’s some sort of work-around that hopefully won’t majorly delay the album (knock on wood). continuing the stupidity theme, i left my bookbag (with priceless sketchbook and tour information) at the place, and have to try and get a ride back tomorrow to fetch it. bah! how my brain continues to get oxygen is a mystery to me, but probably somewhere along the line (and not too far) is nick reville and a coterie/cotillion of friends.

well, it’s not so bad– i mixed down and didn’t finish in time to overnight the package, but the plant is in not-too-far-away framingham so tomorrow me and nicky revs are just going to drive it over and all should be fine.

last night we illegally downloaded the new star wars movie and projected it in the barn, and it was pretty awesome. star warez! as holmes said. before that i had a house meeting and before that i had to cook dinner and before that i took a nap listening to the new work/death cd (#997) and before that i walked home from the bus from providence and before that mike t walked me to the bus and before that i was woken up peacefully and before that i went to bed and before that i rode home and before that i saw the lazy magnet / work/death show at okie st.. work/death is scott reber from bsr (the male voice that isn’t mine on the above-linked radio broadcast), and i had never seen him play live but it was really good pedal-pushing with vocals even. the cds are always awesome and the new one is processed bass guitar and good for naps with thick dreams. lazy magnet was guitar and singing along to fourtrack backing material, playing the hits– songs people requested with dedications. maybe this is odd to say but i got a song and it really meant a lot to me. the bus back was a different one than any i had ever took. regular readers know that peter pan buses are named after select lines from the book peter pan, and that usually the one going from providence to worcester is “quacking hopelessly about”. well, yesterday it was “the game is over”. walking home i was thinking about the poster mike is making for my album, the one with the morton salt girl on it. i don’t know why it didn’t strike me immediately as peculiar but it is: it’s something i rarely say aloud but often to myself and especially lately: when it rains, it pours.

there’s something wrong with the cdr i sent the new album in on, and they can’t make a glass master out of it. i have to burn another one and overnight it to the plant. too bad i started work on another project and already purged my computer of the mix downs! now i have to mix down and eq all over again! and i’m hearing all this shit i want to change but now i don’t have the time! grr! if i’m such a smart guy, why am i so stupid?

i forgot to add– a good thing to come out of missing the bus (which genuinely happened teresa) is that now i get to be interviewed by meredith for mrr (!) and i get to see lazy magnet again! jeremy is really anticipating this show, his “thanks for helping me out recently everybody” show, and now, so am i. it’s at okie st, propbably at 9:30, 10:00. oh, and for those not keeping score, lazy magnet = jeremy harris. also i got to see the posters mike t is making as promo materials for album, and they’re awesome, with circus lettering and pink dripping blood and umbrellas and such. it looks like the album is on point for completion before tour but maybe i shouldn’t jinx it you know. although there’s already a preemptive jinx in that due to lay-out f-ups the cover’s going to be accidentally upside-down. but i’m cool with that, so maybe it doesn’t count for jinx-debt. it’s a mess folks, it’s a mess!

watched some movies in the past few days, and that’s been alright. beat street, theatre of blood (again), ginger snaps, hitchhiker’s guide. hitchhiker’s guide was great- tim houston said it sucked but what does he know anyway? being a big fan of the books, i was suspicious of the movie but it totally came together. ginger snaps was great, but everyone told me it would be. i feel like monster movies (especially werewolf movies, which is what ginger snaps is) appeal to teenage audiences not for no reason- bodies changing, emotions out of control, hair where previously there was no hair etc.. ginger snaps plays this up to great effect, taking it from a female angle. additionally one of the two sisters in the movie reminded me of melissa number one. beat street and theatre of blood were obviously awesome. beat street is (to my knowledge) the best of the early eighties hip-hipsploitation movies, and it’s great how much emphasis is put on graffiti, the least publicly defensible of the four elements. also how there was practically no rapping, which is what most people thinks of as the end-all be-all of hip hop nowadays. theatre of blood is vincent price as a hammy shakespearian actor presumed dead, who systematically kills his critics in spectacular and shakespearian ways. though he is technically the villian, you have sympathy for him the length of the entire movie. and he’s really given ham carte blanche.

last night i got a ride into providence with josie shagwert to see the heart2heart / vcr dogs / cybele & sakiko (sp?) geoff mullen show. heart2heart = awesome, they played loud until something happened with the PA and they went suddenly “back to basics” playing through their practice amps. strobe lights and lighters for their photo-sensitive oscillators intensified the intimacy. vcr dogs is jeremy harris and christopher kites- their set was bass rumble like mountains. it was super loud but not in the ears- in the back and at the base of the skull. really awesome. cybele and geoff and sakiko played violin and guitar and piano, processed through geoff’s laptop. i felt the laptop wasn’t loud enough and i was straining to hear what was happening. geoff has a marlboro amp almost exactly like mine (the one with the horse stencil, the one that shit the bed last summer) and it was funny to see it. it was like your dog dies and you know it was his time and then you see your dog’s brother trotting down the street happy as a clam at high tide and unawares.

missed my bus back obviously and consequently i’m missing teresa’s “done with school potluck barbeque” but i guess that’s the way the cookie crumbles. it looks like i’m also going to miss nicole 2heart’s high school graduation, being on tour. bummmmmerrrrr… this whole month to me is “may: the month the cookie crumbles”.

neshima, the two-year old i live with, broke her arm playing and they gave her cookies at the hospital and she saved them to bring them to me. she never really eats processed foods and to be honest i don’t think she likes (or understands) sugar. but she knows i do. how’s your arm buddy? “ouchie”. still, she’s in high spirits– that kid’s dynamite. probably having an injured arm so early in life will lead to the developement of super-strength. i guess only time will tell but stay on her good side, right?

the rss stuff has been figured out, thank you all callers, gentlemen and otherwise.

ok, so i finally took down the under-utilized “fujichia flashlight” on the sidebar, where fans and well wishers were singled out and names put to faces. i liked having it there, but it was too hard to switch it out. i don’t know, it was pretty nice… send me a good picture for it and maybe i’ll throw it back up. anyway, to fill the void somewhat, i’ve put up this fan art page, so crack your photoshop knuckles and make me something nice. ok, the truth is, i just wanted a place to put that awesome picture of kartina that’s at the top.

also, can i get an rss roll-call? jbruce says the feed is busted- is this the case with everyone? any ideas on what it is, because i haven’t changed a thing.

like some kind of jerk i didn’t go see kimya dawson and matty popchart at cemetary st last night. i was unable to extricate myself from a nostalgia-zone, organizing stuff stored at my mom’s house. bummmmerrrrrrrrrrrr…

today it’s a nice sunny day, i got up at 9, and already my pager’s blowing up… a nice note on the corleone page about my dishwashing, and also my band page is up (although the picture doesn’t seem to be working). even more exciting is the release to the internet of ultra eczema #15! ultra eczema is dennis tyfus’ awesome zine/label. this issue is all recordings of people calling up his radio show in belgium and singing over the phone. i sing a heretofore unheard ukulele number (”hey mister, have you met rosie’s sister”). there are also cuts by the blow, lucky dragons, kites, BARR, emil beauliau, devendra banhart, and many more. this totally rules!
