character actor vincent schiavelli died yesteday, and in his obit was a mention that he was a food writer. vincent price was also a legendary gourmet, and i can’t help but dwell upon what a wonderfully fiendish thing it is to delight in the measured consumption of select items. or is it more ghoulish than fiendish? also vincent price’s father was the president of the national candy company. also schiavelli’s obituary *headline* calls him “gloom personified”. damn!

link to “great character actors” page. there is yet to be a truly great piece of art about the life of a character actor, but is there anything at all?

lilah- i was walking up pleasant st and was delighted to find that the church across from tatnuck elementary had a quote posted on their yard written by none other than gracie allen. the quote was “never put a period where god put a comma”, and it’s a good one and worth noting, but i mention it because, a- i know you like burns and allen, and b- there’s something really wonderful about quoting gracie allen to someone who doesn’t know her as a classically loopy character. in context it couldn’t been just one in a long string of silly jokes, out of context it might as well have been buddha or something.

fujichia: it was gracie allen but it might as well have been buddha or something.

doot doot doot, xmas was awesome. doot doot doot, because cool breeze’s mom bought him a plane ticket. doot doot doot, even if he was only in town for a day and a night. doot doot doot, we stayed up all night gossipping and then went to the george’s green island diner. doot doot doot, xmas was so good i made it into a song and this is the song. doot doot doo-doo-doot doot. DOOT!

george’s green island is a great diner that is only open super late at night and in the morning, and george is a total ex marine who keeps the grill so clean it will seriously blow your mind. think of how clean a got grill can be then multiply it by a million and that’s clean.

nice fambly get-together on the 23rd (which is matt-carrolmas! happy birthday the good matt carroll!) and before that hanging out with elsa and vin and watching movies and playing katamari, and before that the show at julian’s was fun. jjbb banjo album has fully dropped but you’ll have to get it from him somehow. zoom! *no* party at the go go this new years, so be aware. zoom!

ok, i know what i just said about backrubs and dinner dates and so forth, but actually could people give me a shout-out so i can at least put you in my buddy list or whatever? also, npbk- i tried to get gaim but had problems compiling it. could you send me a precompiled version or something for osx or is that NCD?

i am staying at chloe’s apartment for a little bit. in the fashion of the times, there is no phone line. the best way to reach me in an immediate fashion to plan lunch and dinner dates and backrubs (from you to me) is via AOLIM. my screenname is “fujichia”. THIS IS FOR PLANNING LUNCH AND DINNER DATES AND BACKRUBS* ONLY!

wednesday’s show at F Street totaly ruled. in order, it was lazy magnet, AT, rob francisco, jimmy cousins, dan beckman, colin langenus, each taking turns fronting while the other five played back-up, alternating guitars, bass, and drums. mattz yelled out “traveling willburys!” and boy was he on point. all the performances were great, playing their old songs in new, funny, fleshed-out ways. in addition to his other total jams, jeremy played “blame life”, which made me really happy, as lots of people knew it from my quotation in the middle of my song “”history of sour candy”. a decent crowd came out and danced and had fun in a cold basement. party up worcester!

“roosevelt in the whitehouse, singing ‘all us to our cups’
mckinley in the graveyard, he’s never getting up”

getting set up for this show tonight and feeling nervous- no way to contact the bands, no way to know if anyone’s even coming out on a cold wednesday night to a strange place, but no matter, never mind. been eating lots of eggs and avocados and letting myself think that all these new fats are really greasing up my brain to think better and hence all the things i’m dwelling on are actual real things that have been brewing like when you fast for four days and your tongue turns black from the release of stored toxins. additionally it’s making my coat real shiny and luxurious.
(jim, cindy et al: re: eggs: a freegan moment. still not buying that shiz, milk products still make my tummy hurt. and factory farming still rubs.).

oh, i just talked to the bands, they are all set. now you, the audience, is the last piece of the puzzle!

mh and j9 were both clamoring for the return of the guestbook, so i put it back. i took it down when i did the page redesign because i was getting a ton of spam and it was a bear to go in and delete it all, and it rendered the damn thing pretty much worthless. anyway i added one little thing that i hope will make it unspammable but i kind of doubt it will work for very long. we’ll see. i left up a good amount of spam, because it’s totally weird. not the standard erectile dysfunction stuff, but all the weird conversational stuff. i can only guess that it’s supposed to have links appended to it, which my guestbook program strips off, and that it’s in this conversational format to elude bayesian text analysis (which many spam filters use). anyway, someone had to write it at some point, and it’s pretty good. i think there are four spam conversations running concomittently, with the earliest (marty & mr wang) being the best. j9 wanted the guestbook back up so she could communicate with people while she’s in japan, so maybe it would do well to get back in the habit of checking it, if you ever were.

ok, ok? it’s the age-old story that i get behind in my regimen, and then the longer i wait the more things pile up and the harder it gets to get back into swing. zo:

there was that show at clark, which was for the campus alternative newspaper’s 24 hour issue, in which an entire issue gets put together in a day from soup to nuts, and bands play and there’s free pizza. i’m not going to say anything about the magazine but the show was really fun. first there were a bunch of student bands, which were fun, and which featured some of my friends, then there was the goon block that consisted of fat worm of error, me, this was hypersection, and the terribles. the last band in the student block was a really bad “blues hammer” rock band, which was the soundguy’s band. there was definitely a group of people that were into it and when fat worm started playing there were a lot of great WTFs. before fat worm started a kid writing for the magazine came up to me and asked what they were like. i told him squishy, angular, noisy, of varying density, wet, arhythmic, shifty, non-rock-like, awestern, and so forth. many of us had just watched rize, the krumping / clown dance documentary, and it made a big impact. so there was definitely a lot of that. (krumping is a battle-oriented form of hip hop dancing that isn’t so much skill-based as breaking, but more emotion-based, like punk dancing, with body contact and wild experimentation). after FWOE i played a nice set with no surprises, then this was hypersection in all their ragged glory, and the terribles with a twangy madness as always but especially recently moreso, and we danced fun to that too. i also sold t-shirts and made some dosh, and there was free pizza and soda as promised.

the next day i was supposed to play at the flywheel for crystal stokowski’s art opening but it was seriously snowing so hard i couldn’t even get to the bus station ok? no joke. as i earlier stated, this makes four (4) consecutive western mass shows i’ve bailed from, but what could i do? day after was the big party at downhill mansion and it was totally fun. me & mike and mary wilson & little andrew made tapes, and kevin DJed, but the dance area was too far removed and to most people dancing was less the focal point than a peculiar backdrop (a small handfull of people at a decent-sized party going completely apeshit to iron maiden and lesley gore). all my clothes got pretty messed-up from jjbbuck pouring consecutive drinks down my pants but such is the stuff of life. maybe i said some stuff i shouldn’t have said, but maybe again, so it goes.

after those two big things what’s been happening? andrew’s been dumpstering a lot of food and it’s been amazing. i don’t know if people out there are looking down their internet noses at me right now, but eating from the dumpster is eating as decadent as you could imagine. chocolate cakes, cookies, truffles, a ton of avacados and eggs and cheese, pastries, hummus, tomatoes, apples and oranges, and lots of really good bread. totally rules. terribles played a show at qvcc the night of the party and i guess it was awesome. they said they played to no reaction whatsoever, but as soon as they sat down at the merch table they were swamped. mike describes the crowd as being very young, and noted it as likely that the terribles were the first crazy, nonformulaic punk band many present had ever seen. also some of the kids already knew mike from seeing him skate.

jjb buckmaster’s 67 song, 78 minute banjo cd is almost done. entitled “most successful poem” it’s a total doozy, tracks culled from the 5+ hours of banjo music he recorded over the summer when he was housesitting in a huge loft in new york with no money and a banjo and nothing else to do. it’s like i told homegirl the other day- flawlessness is not the goal. a compulsive habit of creation matched with an editorial mindset is a far more viable goal.

don’t forget there’s a show at forbes st this wednesday- lazy magnet, colin langenus (of usa is a monster), dan beckman (of impractical cockpit), AxTx (from buddyship), jimmy cousins, and robert francisco (of monster attacks noise machine). it’s the total thrashers playing pretty songs show, and it starts at 7pm because it’s a wednesday. beeeeeeee there. email for more details.

well, i did it. it’s snowing out too bad to even get to the bus station, i called in for tonight’s show, making it the FOURTH consecutive show in that area of the world that i’ve been unable to make. i feel really bad about it, sorry crystal and everyone!!!!!!

ok, does anyone want to go out to easthampton mass tomorrow for a show i’m playing at crystal stokowski’s art opening at the flywheel? i thought i was going to ride back with fat worm of error (which whom i played a totally awesome show tonight and more on this later) but then i decided against it (because the show was too awesome and i wanted to stay to the end). there’s a bus to near there, which isn’t a major problem, but it isn’t free. i’d be happy to tender $10 gas and then tolls to whoever wants to go with me, or more if that isn’t actually reasonable. email me before 4:30- my bus leaves at 5:10 and i’ll probably be walking to the terminal. jacob at fujichia dot commie. i’ll throw in a weird mixtape even, and my cd if you don’t have it yet.

i’m staying at downhill mansion 1-800-COLLECTIVE for a few days, there’s a crazy show tonight at clark university for free with free pizza, and a big party here on the 10th (email me for details). if you’re RSSing and can’t see the calender, please be informed that tonight’s show is me, the terribles, this was hypersection, fat worm of error, grimeology, when walls were built, me and the kid, and rainbow vs narwhal, and bands start at 9, and i’m told there will be free pizza. so sleep if you want to sleep but don’t tell me later that you slept on this and wish you didn’t.

i totally played myself and got removed of my ability to participate in the google adwords program. this always to braggarts, i guess, but i’m not giving up just yet. i usually give up just yet, but right now i’m in the tumultuous caboose position on a hilarious train of thought involving adwords. meanwhile i’m at downhill mansion or whatever they want to call it eating cookies and listening to thrones. in mere minutes i will commence drawing pictures from the guiness book of world records. i got a new sketchbook yesterday, and it’s a new style- little. panter-size. i want to bust into it so bad but i’ve got a healthy unswallowable 20+ pages in my old standard 8 x 11 and i decided to be a one-sketchbook person. my only option is to make myself draw extra fast so i can bust into the new book by the time i do my artist’s residence at chloe’s empty apartment while she’s on winter break.

fujichia: an aggravating beauty
