character actor vincent schiavelli died yesteday, and in his obit was a mention that he was a food writer. vincent price was also a legendary gourmet, and i can’t help but dwell upon what a wonderfully fiendish thing it is to delight in the measured consumption of select items. or is it more ghoulish than fiendish? also vincent price’s father was the president of the national candy company. also schiavelli’s obituary *headline* calls him “gloom personified”. damn!
link to “great character actors” page. there is yet to be a truly great piece of art about the life of a character actor, but is there anything at all?
lilah- i was walking up pleasant st and was delighted to find that the church across from tatnuck elementary had a quote posted on their yard written by none other than gracie allen. the quote was “never put a period where god put a comma”, and it’s a good one and worth noting, but i mention it because, a- i know you like burns and allen, and b- there’s something really wonderful about quoting gracie allen to someone who doesn’t know her as a classically loopy character. in context it couldn’t been just one in a long string of silly jokes, out of context it might as well have been buddha or something.
fujichia: it was gracie allen but it might as well have been buddha or something.
