it’s been a busy couple of days i guess- you and i got married and always ended up having some sort of raging party. sometimes jean coz was the guest of honor, usually there was a tub full of boo’s (booze), always we found ourselves in some kind of hysterics (usually the good kind). also i was able to detect a race of aliens living among us who based their appearance on one single character in a comic book, a humanoid with green hair and a blue hat. they would try and catch you but they were easily avoidable. because the comic book character was never pictured turning right or going uphill, the aliens could not do these things. if you got on their right side or ran uphill you were effectively invisible to them. later i was hanging out with my daughter and she gave the prince of japan a small electronic musical toy that he tinkered with and pinned underneath his sweater, and when you got close or hugged him you could hear it play a nice little tune. i was personally delighted. keep sending in your dream reports everyone!
lee from the body has a dj persona that’s “dj glorious monster”, and for the body tour he made two mix cds, one that’s all miami bass, one that’s all african funk from the 60s and 70s. i guess i’ve got little to say except that the cds are good and going on tour with a mix tape as part of your merch set is good form. it may expose people to stuff they weren’t aware of, and will make people draw lines between, say, the low-end onslaught and repition of the body’s doom metal, and, oh… “tootsie roll” by the 69 boyz. which is a good line, when studiously drawn.
past few i’ve been in providence. got a ride in thursday night with alex ex-sideburns to see the body, after he professed an interest in slooooooooooow metal. the show was a tour kick-off for the body and bonedust, and mutant life expectancy played too. that’s right, only three bands! in providence, land of the eight band show, this is like a white elephant. and since all the bands had only two people per, it had the highest band member to audience ratio i’ve seen in a DIY show in a long time. altogether it was great. well, mutant life expectancy was kind of go-nowhere but it should be noted that the one other time i saw them they ripped it up. bonedust is pippi and chrissy’s slow, vocal-effected doom unit with kohl eyes and haunty singing and drum triggers, they literally wailed. the body fully crushed, playing doom riffs, thunderous drums, civil rights speaches. total headbang. also at the show was a chocolate mousse (sp?) pie that pippi made that was seriously the best thing i’ve ever eaten. the pie was the fourth band. the pie should’ve been on the flyer. it was seriously mind expansive. i can’t stop talking about the pie.
stayed in town the night and the next day and the next night was a show at okie st with and french in action. more true to form, this was actually two shows that got double booked and meshed together, but it was awesome. first up was deer tick, just returning from a tour that left him with a mysterious shaved head (let’s pretend it’s mysterious). then a sonic youth cover band that would’ve been good if they dressed up (which wouldn’t have been hard at all). then there was a total boner band, a five-man acoustical sham, who were only good as a setting-up of pins for the next band to knock down, the next band being mike wojo’s little brother’s straight-up punk band. they (“the agitators”) did a lot of clash and ramones covers, tons of people danced, they did “ring of fire” and there was a circle pit, it was perfect. really, just what the dr ordered. cybele played next, beautiful and feverish violin sawing with taped accompaniment (she said she’ll have recordings soon, i told her i’d pay any price and she laughed real sinister, made me regret my loose talk). french in action with kpars on additional vox ruled, they did a crystals cover (“girls can tell”) lots of dancing, then this was hypersection blew it up as always, like crass with poly styrene singing and fake fur everywhere from the future via the freebox at a group house. dreamhouse played last but i had to leave! sorry dreamers!
ohhhhhhh, i’m thinking about the pie again.
