karaoke
last night a bunch of folks went over to downhill mansion for a karaoke night. matt carroll downloaded 3500 karaoke files and found a software player, it was pretty legit. there were some really good performances- little andrew did “sweet leaf”, ML did the beach boys song “heroes and villians”, kpars did “white rabbit”, really, everyone slayed. the karaoke software lets you change the tempo and the pitch, so i dialed everything waay down and did a screwed version of “chain of fools”. it was fun, but i found that i almost couldn’t sing without the presence of wildcards (strangers) who do not know what we’re all capable of, and whose reactions cannot be predicted. i guess it was good in that people who wouldn’t have gone out to a bar realized that karaoke is fun, and not scary, or scary in a fun, empowering way at least. also, all that shit’s on the computer now, so it’ll be great to just go over there when they’re having dinner or something and fire it up and do a full set. or maybe the whole operation could go mobile, and set up on some streetcorner enticing passersby. anyway, as far as having another home karaoke night, i feel like there’s so few regular, public, creative things to do in worcester, it’d be a shame to make one of them obsolete. rite? i mean, music is the healing force of the universe! so let’s use it! anyway i had a lot of fun, let’s keep growing it weird.

- saturday the 14th (this saturday) at downhill mansion- yoni gordan and purple rhinestone eagle. yoni will have his new cd (i think) with ML artwork. P.R.E. will have MID TEMPO RIFFS. like i said, sabbathy, and if you don’t like black sabbath fuuuuuuuck yoouuuuuuuuuuuuu. $5
- also this saturday– at as220, foofest all day street fest with vendors and music and as always the little pancakes scareoke tent. plus lazy magnet, teenage waistband, nik perry’s new band “cloudsplitter”, more. free
- also also saturday but in boston, at the brattle theatre– . renewed interest in this “best worst movie” has put troll 2 back on the screen, as a traveling roadshow with cast members present for q&a! also, i guess there’s some sort of cross-promotion in which you can play guitar hero 2 against members of the cast? for more info, look it up.
so that’s saturday. tough call, rite?
