i’ve been getting a good number of calls lately to the fujichia “talkback” phone line, but i might as well post about it again. the number is
206 203 2911

and when you call it will go straight to a message machine, where you can leave me a message that will get emailed to my computer. this is not the best way to get in touch with me, but this is the best number to drunk dial, or if you find yourself singing in a particularly sonorous hallway, or if you have a funny joke, or if you just had a dream i was in, or for however purpose. again, i will never pick up. in fact, it is impossible to talk to me via this number. but i will get the message, and may use it in some form somewhere down the line (anonymously). put it in your phone. call any time.

if you want to call (maybe just to hear me pronounce “fujichia”) but can’t think of what to say or do, call and read an entry from this weblog a la sspoken wikipedia entries, and i’ll upload it and link to it from the original post. just be sure and say the date so i can find it. uh, first five people to do this get limited edition bandanas with awesome tigers screened on them. but still call when drunk or whatever.

  1. Hey Bakeoff, can we all do another HBML group show a la dioramarama but with a different and new challenge? I know the deadline was real pain in the patootie for you, but let’s say everyone can get on everyone else about this for late September or early October? I want to make a doll. Who else wants to make a doll?

  2. i’d like to do again the dioramarama, i think it made good use of the windows, and it’s good to have a constrained size, i think. late september sounds good. and this time there should be a huge cash prize.

but first, what are the other ideas? you want to make a doll, but does anyone else want to throw in 2 cents?

  3. not the hugest idea, but what if there was a pool of who was involved, and they threw into the hat a charachter for a doll to be made in its likeness, and then the hats contents were redistributed to the people involved, secret santa style…

  4. @jenine…. um, of course you want to make a doll!!!!!!

I’m gonna reply in the affirmative for joshua’s idea of making action figures/dolls/etc. of other people involved in the project. that sounds awesome. we would need a photo or something for likeness reference…. and, yes, I would do it!

  5. Dolls are fine, I’d just like to do something different this year, I’m up for anything.

  6. ok, the problem as i see it of the idea “dolls of other people” is that if you don’t know the person then you’re just looking at a weird doll– the contest as i understand it is maximized for a group for which there are insiders and outsiders. also there couldn’t be rolling admissions- it would have to be everyone that wanted to do it committing at one time with no possibility for others to jump in. as for simply the idea “dolls”, i think displaying the dolls would be problematic. plus there’s too high an entry level– a kid couldn’t make a doll that could compete with a doll that jenine might make, whereas a kid could make a diorama that was better (no offense j9). also i kind of laid the groundwork for dioramarama, people saw it last year and saw how it was awesome and said “i’ll definitely do it next year!”. sorry gang, but i think i’m just going to roll with it.

  7. not to shoot anyone down. maybe we can do a doll show too, later or earlier. just not as a replacement for dioramarama.

  8. conceded. I don’t have time to make anything anyway, except crummy posters. drat.

do you still have any of the dioramas from last year? I remember I was going to try & pick mine up from you, and I don’t think I ever did. I would still love to grab it. let me know.

  9. I wasn’t thinking specifically that the dolls would be of the people involved (though I do really like that idea), but rather charachters the involved made up, the descriptions/diagram/drawings could be shown alongside the finished project. This swapping of ideas could be done for diorama’s as well of course.
also, in terms of a closed group, though a bummer for those who didn’t get in, would maybe help with the deadline deal, since people would be responsible for others projects…
anyway it goes down, count me in - I’m gonna make a thing!
