the right hand didn’t know
jjb buckmaster, famous of the terribles, and comic artist, displays for all to see his one enormous hand, in this photospread for all to see. to make it easier to understand, we have posed him with two items identical in size. it’s weird, i know.
no photoshop.
this is a guitar and a small cello.
i wanted him to pose with two records, but jamie only has one record (duran duran) and one laserdisk (barbarella). you get the idea.
jamie makes good faces, its making me laugh out loud while sitting at my desk (crunching data, apparently) and my coworkers are giving me weird looks.

This is so F’ing brilliant, though the effect is somewhat ruined when the closer object is lit up strangely from the flash. You should try it outside in natural light, with such items as:
- a toothpick and a drumstick
- a grape and a watermelon
- a Hot Wheels car and AN ACTUAL CAR
uh, sorry dan, but what you’re laying down, i’m not picking up. jamie has one hand that is much much much (but some times less than others) bigger than the other. he has taken this in stride his whole life, and even made the best of it. nonetheless for reasons unknown to me he is still tetchy about the discoloration, so this is not something we ever bring up. but you had no way of knowing that, so don’t feel bad. anyway thanks for enjoying our pictures!
Next time, take the chin rest off the “cello” for some added authenticity!
mh, cellos don’t have chin rests! that’s a weird piece of plastic that someone threw at us as we were taking the picture.
you should see his giant hand in action – palming a basketball or squeezing a grapefruit – crazy! he could totally crush your head if he wanted to. but he’s a gentle giant, that hand is.
We cant believe that Bucky let you photograph his deformity. He’s usually really touchy about it.
it was pretty easy– first, i told him i’d take him to see iron man. then we took the pictures, and then i showed him grandpa’s suit of armor. then he hit me. then grandpa woke up and yelled at us. then we made grandpa supper. then we watched x men cartoons. nothin’ to it!
jamie, don’t be hurt or offended by all these people. *both* your hands look great, especially in the muffin tins and pry-bars pictures.
(the lampshades & bagels are hilarious to me, but that’s because of a familiarity with the specific objects in question…)
