the piece finished up nicely, especially considering that it’s the biggest thing i’ve ever made. the opening was fun but the only people from worcester were my mom and mike leslie. i kept looking at the door thinking “where is everyone?”, it sucked. luckily i was surrounded by interesting people working on amazing projects. the bus ride back now costs $17. i’m still sleep-deprived and i have no food at all. full round-up when i remedy some of these situations. good night, assholes!

time-capsule.jpg

this saturday at 6pm, bone zone is recording an episode of the snow ghost community show, at mz’s apartment. they want the apartment to be totally totally full of people, and to that end, they are offering free beer and pizza. this is going to be areally really fun and crazy. additionally, i think it’s best to treat this like a time capsule. the snow ghost community show is on the internet at archive.org, which is a serious SERIOUS forever and ever style culture protector. if you are a player in any capacity in and around worcester MA, you NEED to come to this, and be in full expression of your personality. we’re going to have a really good time this saturday, and we’re going to have an amazing time watching the video again in 5 years, 10 years, 30 years, 150 years. email me for address. no copsssssssssss, no bullies, no masters. gods only.

more jimmy news

the light of day (aka a myspace message) brings the information that crazy jimmy is not in fact dead. i guess the idea “fake death” was supposed to be a joke on dan wars only, and dan wars was not involved. in fact, he was hit the hardest. i have retracted my previously-posted eulogy, which wasn’t untrue, but was really the sort of thing you say only upon someone’s demise. also, i didn’t want jimmy to read it and get any ideas. this is all pretty classic: a great story, and a lousy thing to have happen to you.

crazy jimmy RIP

this just in over the wire from dan wars:

James Murphy passed away yesterday morning of heart failure in his apartment in the south end. This isnt a joke or rumor, so please dont ask. His father is having a private funeral for him the beginning of next week in Nova Scotia. This is all the information I have, and again, this isnt a joke or rumor.

Crazy Jimmy was completely out of his mind. He was always there to help out with any problem anyone had ( including angry landlords, the Nazis that attacked the State House, greasing the palm of the Worcester County DA to get me out out possible jail time, etc..). He gave us alot of great stories and crazy adventures. Im going to miss him so fucking much……

“There he goes. One of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. ”

god bless crazy jimmy

the george st race was great– heavy reppers included baby bear, the flash, neil and christina, cschubs, white tiger, papa houston, mike bike, and many others. total cheer factory.

i’ve been writing all day today for a new weird project, which is always good. i had to call matt carroll lazy genius for some technical historical information, and i felt like kind of a fool when i was asking the question (which was pretty arcane), but of course he had a good answer and led me in a good direction. god bless the trivia lifeline!

i always feel like i have to make up for a few days of not writing, so here’s a flyer i made for the store that presents our origin story in a comic form. tra la la, i’m still coasting on the good feeling of finally finishing something (the comic book).

i want to see the manager

p38-copy.jpg

i’ve been getting too many books at once from the library, but i’m just now learning how to have it work out. too often idle time is totally wasted on the internet, and obviously i like the internet and there are gems and wonders and snapshots and shadows and butt prints still warm, but sometimes time is too much logged at the keyboard checking to see if the world is magical in a specific way yet. so now i’m cutting off and reading actual things more, and thinking about them and writing about them (sure, sure). incidentally if you want to talk about krishna, popeye, or classy freddy blassie, now’s the time, while my thoughts are undifferentiated flesh.

filming the next episode of the snow ghost community show (on which i am a guest) this monday at the store. the topic will obviously be dracula. i plan on wearing sunglasses as an indication of attitude, possibly a beard. if you have an idea for a good stunt or gimmick, now’s the time.

also, sam, work proceeds apace on the comic book (not the one i showed you).

just a reminder that from now on, HBML is open on saturdays, from 2 - 5pm. i recommend visiting the worcester art museum beforehand- it’s free before noon every saturday, and right now there’s a raymond pettibon / ed ruscha exhibit that is WORTH IT.

you can’t win

this morning i talked to gus, the landlord at the store, and he is looking into selling the building. he was nice on the phone, talking about how he was just exploring to see what the market was like, and that even if he did sell it it would be pretty far in the future and that anyway i’d be fine, but today prospective buyers came by looking around and they obviously were not into continuing business with me. i’m kind of bummed about this but also who wants a dumb job at a store forever? not me. i know what this is and i do not know the end of the world. anyway in any event i’ve got a few months to go big or stay in my hole. people that have never been to the store- now is not the time to start. stay home. don’t get involved.

sasha and mike t dorve in from providecne to hang out all day today and sasha told me about sammy harkham’s store (”family”) in LA, which is like my store but everything is $400. then two sets of people came in to the store super psyched and told me they’d be back on the first of the month to buy things. then i looked at the family webpage and there are things for sale that my friends made that i don’t have and have never seen.

movie marathon

ugg, right? party at forbes st the other night was fun and convoluted– the theme was atlantis high school prom at which the theme is “over the sea” - people in costume as fishes dressed as people. it was fun and mel and carolyn made a mix tape. sadly i had to bail early to go to bed to wake up at 7 to take the bus to boston for a 24 hour sci-fi movie marathon with dan wars, which was pretty epic. they showed forbidden planet, frankenstein meets the space monster, metropolis (the anime), dark star, monster house, puzzlehead, robocop, slither, chopping mall, stepford wives, rocket ship (a full-length edit of flash gordon serials), trail of the screaming forehead, and blade runner, plus a bunch of short films, trailers, and cartoons. i was especially psyched to see forbidden planet on the big screen, as well as frankenstein meets the space monster, which i had just been reading about in psychotronic guide, and which did not disappoint. the only critique i could make (other than the bizarre inclusion of monster house in the lineup) is that the pacing was off- if were booking a 24 hour marathon, i’d put all the fun, totally bonkers shit in the 5am and on slot. ending with robocop was good, but watching blade runner at 7am was a little rough (blade runner was the surprise movie, and based on the clues, we were all hoping it would be total recall, which would’ve been awesome). anyway, i like good grief and endurance trials, so i had a great time. i brought healthy snacks and did ok, i only fell asleep for about 20 minutes (during blade runner, which i like even if it seems otherwise right now), afterwards we went back to dan’s house and totally crashed. i’m still pretty muddyheaded, obviously.

it never ends

sorry dano, that i’m so slow on the updates and readables– my power cord got too frayed, leaving me computerless and mildly frazzled as i order a replacement. anyway, with me taking time off from the junk store to get stuff done, it’s been kind of nice to not have this time-taker: the internet, always nipping at my brain to look up one more factoid or dispense one more dumb theory about something [probably] no one cares about to begin with. anyway, the t-shirts i promised months (?) ago (the ones mel designed- black and rust on lavender) are done and available at the store (and will be for sale on the internet when my shit gets in). ok, i’m on margaret’s computer, i have to return it to margaret.
