playing a show tomorrow (tuesday) in providence, at the stairwell gallery at i know not precisely when and with i know not exactly who. but i know this: theh bands are friends of natalja (of the good good) and one or more are jazz-cabaret-y and feature drums matched with singing. and there is me.

this weekend was the big anniversary party at collective a go go, 14 years old now. it was fun with dinner and dancing and lots of the character-rich faces of old friends. GT (of Phone Book fame) was in town and the next day i hitched my wagon to his train and we puttered around all day, walking to ML’s in the miserable sun, drinking fountain sodas, and telling fine stories. worcester’s most ballinest player 2007.

I GOT CAKE FOR EVERY YEAR I’VE BEEN ALIVE

jjbblion.gif

i’m playing a show this thursday, the 26th, at distant castle.
also
DIEGO PEREZ
ID M THEFTABLE
ANIKKI DAWN

that’s right, it’s FOLK MUSTACHE v NOISE BEARD. swayers and players (featuring sayers and brayers).

let’s say 8:30 pm.

i’ll have some new songs, and a new collectible one sheet.

lion darwing by JJB Buckmaster

oh, diego is a fun guy from providence, and is the holy ghost to father deer tick and son chris paddock. annikki dawn is a whippoorwill in a peaceable kingdom. id m theftable is a mystery beast from deep maine, that sits at a table with devices and makes throat clearing noises in a noise mode. josh tumble cat ranks him high, and that goes a long way for me. this is going to be great!

karaoke damager, t-shirt tailor, birthday blues blowout

mlkybd.jpg
tonight and seemingly every wednesday night until the end of summer, our pal HO P WI will be hosting a karaoke nite at ralph’s. if you know holmes, you know that this is a dream come true for him, he’s carzy about karaoke. when he was traveling around south america he would use karaoke as a funny icebreaker, as a way to get to know fun people in any place he was. he also has a lot of cool karaoke styles– his interest in dancehall led to the idea “karaoke mashup” where you sing one song over another, or blend two songs together on the fly. but to quote the email:

…don’t be intimidated. This is like youth soccer, everybody gets a medal.

OKEKARAOKEKARAOKEKARAOKEKARAOKEKARAOKEKARAOKEKARA

this is going to be super fun!

was it a full moon in worcester yesterday?

for Nicky Louse:

this friday (tomorrow):

THE OLD HAUNTS (on tour from Olympia, feat. Tobi from Bikini Kill, Frumpies, The Go Team, etc)
STUPID PARTY (from NYC, where every party is a futile exercise in casual ignorance)
NASTY INTENTIONS (also from NYC, mike stoltz said that some of them are cute, and that they are husker dü-ish)
plus our own
TERRIBLES (”worcester’s most happenin’ band”)
and
MENTAL HELL (featuring “the prince of worcester” jon shirley)

this is at distant castle, ML said he wants to start the show at 7, i am not staking my good reputation to this wild claim

bring money

THEN
this saturday at HBML there will be another cool silk screening day, WHEREIN you bring in a reasonably blank garment (and $5) and we screen an imageof our choice onto it. this time around the image will be a kind of insane drawing of a tiger’s face. the face is fierce, with dripping teeth, the sort of thing you see right before you get your fucking face eaten the hell off by guess what guys? A TIGER. yes indeed, this tiger (the drawing of it) will really communicate to the world the idea “what i want i get and get = eat and eat = eat messy”. printed in bleck ink.

what else? i don’t know.

players playin

today me and purtle have the first real performances of the play we’re in, with live strangers. but i’m more psyched about this (email from anne):

Come One, Come All! See the Dragon Sorcerer as he meets his match in our five heros.
Friday and Saturday May 9th and 10th Doors open at 7:00 Curtain at 7:30
First Unitarian Church, 90 Main St. Worcester

The Dragon Sorcerer Play is a culmination of our school years worth of work at the Stone Soup Learning Coop. The students and staff researched knights and ninjas, learned about the literary concept of a quest and all it’s elements, learned about CORI laws and reform, created a story line together, and then a student took the story line and wrote a wonderful play with it. Now we are building sets, making costumes, and rehearsing, so that we can give the performance of our lives. We’d really love for you to join as and share in the amazing work these students have accomplished this year.

Tickets Suggested donation $10 Adults $2 Under 12
Tickets available at the Door

carolynn is in this, and plays an ogre whose power is burping, which is typecasting, but whatever.

also, the overheard bitch album is done and available for download. or pick it up as a double cd greatest hits debut. i think it’s eight minutes total, with celebrity remixes by me and little andrew. overheard bitch is kpars and nrevs, and the songs are all (or mostly) things they overheard people say, regarding bitches, rapped with wanton disregard for rhythm or being near the microphone. the album is called “what are you smiling at, bitch?”, it’s really really weird.

full question card

nanny2.jpg
oh yeah, i’m playing a show in turners falls next wednesday (a week from tomorrow):

Montague Phantom Brain Exchange #3.5
Wednesday, April 23rd, 7:30pm $5.
at the Brickhouse Community Resource Center 24 Third St Turners Falls, MA 01376

Touring filmmaker Bill Daniel presents his documentary “Who Is Bozo Texino?”
music by Jacob Berendes
and also the Vaudevillains

i’m pretty psyched about the movie, which is a documentary in search of the hobo graffitti artist bozo texino, whose cowboy drawing has graced freight cars for 50 years or something. if you want to go to this let me know, i have no idea how i’m getting out there. yes, this iss the same night as the international noise conference on tour, which is in amherst. if you’re going to this, no hard feelings, and can i still get a ride?

also this wednesday (tomorrow) peter brotzmann and han bennink are playing at a tiny church in amherst, and i wicked want to go but again how?

in re: turners falls– josh told me yesterday that turners falls had a curse upon from king phillip’s war up until very recent times, when remaining members of the tribe what cursed it held a lifting ceremony. does anyone (which is to say dan o’neill) have any more information about this? i feel like curses are a dime a dozen, but actual lifted curses are far more rare.

plodding somnambulist

oh, i decided today in the face of tons of stuff i have to do in the next few days and on account of being traveled out and moreover with no money to speak of that i’m not going to the PS1 show, so i will be playing at distant castle tomorrrow with ghost mice, foundation, matt fox, and now also spring break north korea. the flyer i got (which spelled my name wrong) said it’s at 8:30. so use that information how you may.

new comic coming out for the comic book event.

duh. forgot for a second about

  1. this friday at HBML– JJB Buckmaster art show opening with snacks and bold, confident ink usages and discrete art items for immediate sale
  2. this saturday at HBML– a fashion shoot with a real fashion photographer. bring your body and your sense of style, select from our weird selection and we’ll take party snaps for the internet while really hot lights make you uncomfortable enough to give you the edge in the high stakes world of professional modeling.

and speaking of modeling, NPR points us to this gem regarding worcester’s own on america’s top model. YAAAAAAAAA.
