but really the reason i wanted guestbook fun is that i wanted to tell all the goons and beauty queens and crooks and girl scouts of worcester that read the inimitable FUJICHIA online gazette about an exciting new possibility in worcester town.

which is, to wit: a new non-commercial radio station license opening up in worcester in the next few months. yup! please spread the word, because we need to work fast in order to make this happen. i am working as an organizer for prometheus radio ( http://www.prometheusradio.org ) and i’m working on organizing a little get together with y’all to discuss the possibilities, hopefully about 2 weeks from now.

write me at paulm at riseup dot net and i’ll keep you in the loop.

thanks for the town square again jacob. now i’ll go back to leaning on this lamp post here and loitering suspiciously.

  3. Has anyone seen the 7-11 cans of Buzz Cola, if you do, please post here. Thanks.

  4. also, Jake, I dont know how much Worcester kids know about Boston Folk Lore figures, but Mr Butch passed away today. He was involved in a scooter accident ( he had recently bought a vespa, I know, right). Mr Butch was a great street person, complete wingut, musician, bum, hobo, tramp, punk rocker, soul man, artist, booze hound, guy who stands on the corner yelling, busker, and friend. He will be missed. There will be a memorial on Monday, the 16th of July on Harvard ave infront of Regeneration, 155 Harvard Ave. 8pm

  7. dan, i bought two cans of buzz cola, one for me, one for you, but then i realized that you can probably get it now just as easy as i can. anyway, i actually really like it– it’s a good peppery cola with a hint of allspice.

    jacob — July 18, 2007 @ 11:49 am

  8. yeah, it has transcended novelty and has become my favorite soda. This always happens with limited edition food stuffs, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sewer pudding pies, Yoo-Hoo with a hint of Banana, etc.

    Danwars — July 19, 2007 @ 2:10 pm

  9. me and ML split a pack of the new “elvis edition” peanut butter cups that are 50% bigger and have a layer of artificial banana in them. i know that a lot of the recent reese’s experiments have been pretty bogue, but these are pretty good.

    jacob — July 19, 2007 @ 9:59 pm

  10. Im really into those, I’ve been saving the wrappers to make buttons out of, my line of gross food stuff packaging pins ( spam labels and cadburry cream egg foil come to mind)

    danwars — July 21, 2007 @ 10:03 pm

  11. Purple told me that the ltd. ed. Elvis “the King” Presley reese peanut butter cups only existed in king size, but I’ve only seen/eaten it in reggo size, in two package varieties; one with the Elvis that was really into his mom and having sex, and the other with the Elvis that was really into doing drugs and pretending he was gonna do karate on guys who did drugs. I love them just like i loved TMNT sewer pies. I haven’t been able to find Buzz Cola even though they did a promo where they turned a 7-11 into a Kwik-E-Mart with shitty Simpsons’ cutouts and new sign and uniforms and everything.

    Nick E. Cretin — July 23, 2007 @ 2:40 pm

  12. great, now i can’t find the soda anymore! why make something just to take it away?

    False Eyelash — August 2, 2007 @ 5:58 pm

  16. sigh… i know…

pertaining to your question, the sandwiches (or “assemblages” as i like to call them) are more often than not, not! after fighting to get them in the first place, now they all the time don’t have any tofu on hand when you go in. has anyone out there tried the other vietnamese spots (chandler, green island)?

    jacob — August 2, 2007 @ 9:04 pm

  17. I think I’m a bit late on this, but I’m just stopping by to say those 7/11 buzz colas vanished as quickly as they appeared. I couldn’t find the time to stand in that Kwik-E-Mart line that stretched all the way to supleveda blvd to get buzz colas whenever they were in stock. Why did they get rid of those Kwik-E-Marts so fast when business was up 800%? I never got a chance to try buzz cola….but I did have a squishy.
I also can only find elvis pb cups in reggo or mini size but i only just discovered them this weekend… i am truley failing my duties as a licensed snacktician….

  20. Have you heard the R. Kelly/Usher collaboration, “Same Girl”? Did you talk about it and I missed it? I haven’t seen the video, which I’ve been told is great, but for me sometimes it’s better to not see the video for things.

    Nick Curtin — August 20, 2007 @ 11:30 am

  21. i love “same girl”! especially the part where usher is listing off the girl’s attributes. in my mind it is socrates and plato:

s: do she got a kid?
    p: yes.
    s: love some waffle house?
    p: yes, that as well.
s: do she got a beauty mark on the left side of her mouth?
p: yes, she has all the qualities of a perfect companion.
    s: went to georgia tech?
p: yes, she is everything i seek in a partner
    s: work for TBS?
p: yes, she is the acme of womanhood, and like all truly beautiful women, she works for TBS.
    etc. etc.

also i like their game plan of finding her and singing “same girl” to her. partly because i like any song that mentions itself, but also because they say this like it’s going to put them ahead in the game– “she’s gonna look so stupid just standing there while we’re singing ‘same girl…’.”.

i haven’t seen the video either, but my understanding is that it drops an excellent bomb at the end.

i could honestly talk about r kelly for hours. beyond the kitsch barrier!

    jacob — August 20, 2007 @ 12:10 pm

  22. In addition to the parts you mention my other fav parts are in the third chorus where it goes “she was the apple of my eye, (blood!) and your potential wife” and the part in the beginning, before the vocals start which i didn’t even notice until the fourth time i heard the song where they whisper “Ussssshhhh”, and after the next bar, “Kellllllsssss”. I also like that they say “she’s been doubling up on us” since the song is from Double Up.

    jean coz — September 4, 2007 @ 12:10 pm

  30. mt- usually my slowness is a result of not drinking enough water, not eating enough green vegetables, not getting enough exercise, being deprived of a stimulant in recent use (usually soda), not interacting with people, or just plain staying in bed too long. getting some fresh air can go a long way. also, shaving my face always makes me feel like less of a scumbag, and giving myself a haircut always makes me feel more in control of my life. build up that emotional capital, and keep reinvesting.

oh, and a really important thing is that you not feel guilty for feeling bored/depressed– all emotions are good, even boredom and depression, so long as we let them pass.

  58. There was this guy see.
He wasn’t very bright and he reached his adult life without ever having learned “the facts”.
Somehow, it gets to be his wedding day.
While he is walking down the isle, his father tugs his sleeve and says,

“Son, when you get to the hotel room…Call me”

Hours later he gets to the hotel room with his beautiful blushing bride and he calls his father,

“Dad, we are the hotel, what do I do?”

“O.K. Son, listen up, take off your clothes and get in the bed, then she should take off her clothes and get in the bed, if not help her. Then either way, ah, call me”

    A few moments later…

“Dad we took off our clothes and we are in the bed, what do I do?”

O.K. Son, listen up. Move real close to her and she should move real close to you, and then… Ah, call me.”

    A few moments later…

“DAD! WE TOOK OFF OUR CLOTHES, GOT IN THE BED AND MOVED REAL CLOSE, WHAT DO I DO???”

“O.K. Son, Listen up, this is the most important part. Stick the long part of your body into the place where she goes to the bathroom.”

    A few moments later…

“Dad, I’ve got my foot in the toilet, what do I do?”

  63. That Huggy Bear song you referenced is the most heartbreakingest ever. What’s it say, “I’d rather cut my eyes out than see you going out with him”?DAG!
In related news, that Silver Jews song that says, “I’d rather live in a trashcan/than see you happy with another man”…I listened to that two days ago on a back porch at a fish fry in celebration of a friend’s graduation. I think that’s how it’s made to be listened to. And yeah, someone busted out a guitar and actually played “Advice to the Graduate” perfectly. Gainesville is that kind of town. Drunk and nostalgic.
